Spring Fair and Art Show – Only Three Weeks Away!

Thank you to our P&F and other special volunteers who are currently working hard to bring these annual events together. Can you please mark in your diaries the following dates:

6th September
The CCGS Art Show Opening Night Cocktail Party will be held in the RLC. Invitations are being sent home to all families early next week and it looks set to be a great evening.

The Art show is open during the following hours:
– Friday 6 September Opening Night Cocktail Party 6-9.30pm
– Saturday 7 September 9am-4pm
– Sunday 8 September 10am-3pm

7th September

You are invited to bring family, friends and neighbours along to this year's Spring Fair. The P&F is working extremely hard in organising these two major events and they promise to be excellent. Don't miss out on the rides, live music, an amazing array of gourmet food stalls, craft, cakes, the chocolate wheel and so much more. The Spring Fair has always been one of the great community celebration days for Central Coast Grammar School. This year's Spring Fair promises to be another great day out. The significant changes to format that the committee has instituted over the last couple of years will see even more refinement to make this year the highest profile day on the CCGS community calendar.

Senior Athletics Carnival

The Years 7-12 carnival held this week at Mingara saw absolutely perfect weather. The organisation by Mr Geddes and his helpers was superb, the supervision by staff on the day, excellent as always and the enjoyment and participation of students as good as I have ever seen. A number of long standing school records have been broken over the two days and these will be covered in next week’s newsletter. Thanks to the many parents who attended and added to the atmosphere and thank you also for the many comments on what a well organised carnival it was.

Prefect Induction

This Thursday 15th August, as part of our school service, prefects for 2014 will be inducted. Many parents and a number of grandparents will attend this important event.

Grandparents’ Day

This Friday we welcome over 500 grandparents for our annual Grandparents’ Day. Grandparents will be treated to a K-6 Assembly, classroom visits, and a visit to the library for the Scholastic Book Fair. Following this, a morning tea will be held in the RLC where grandparents will have the opportunity to see some of our very talented students perform.  Grandparents Day becomes bigger and bigger each year and whilst we see many grandparents on a day to day basis, either dropping their grandchildren off or at Saturday sport, I would like this year to make an especially warm welcome to those grandparents who may have travelled to the Central Coast to celebrate the event. I expect it will be an excellent day for all concerned, students are always excited to show the school off to their grandparents and the grandparents beam with pride in seeing their grandchildren in such a happy and productive environment.

40 Hour Famine

This weekend two hundred of our students from Years 7-12 will be participating in the World Vision, 40 Hour Famine. This program is part of the students’ community service commitment. Whether you are giving up food or something else you love for forty hours we are proud of your dedication.

For those of you who have decided to give up food, please make sure you’re prepared:

  • Drink plenty of water, fruit juice or tea.
  • Feel free to eat energy sweets (like barley sugars) occasionally.
  • When you finish the 40 Hour Famine, ease your way back to normal eating by having something light and healthy, like a salad or fruit.

Year 12 Music Showcase – Change of Venue

This year’s Year 12 Music Showcase will be held next Wednesday 21st August at the new venue, L'isle de France, Terrigal. This evening is always an enjoyable one with our Music 1 and Music 2 students showcasing selections from their HSC performance program. Please note the venue change and thank you to L’isle de France for accommodating us on such short notice.

ISA Winter Sport

This Saturday, 17th August, sees the first day of finals for ISA sport. After very successful participation throughout Terms 2 and 3, we are delighted to have 17 teams in the semi final series, including our senior teams in netball, hockey, girls football, boys football and rugby. Best wishes to everyone participating in the semi finals and I hope that a number of these teams are through to the finals on Saturday August 24th.

Year 7 Drama Club

Year 7 students have been invited to become involved in the Year 7 Drama Club. This Drama Club runs at lunchtimes throughout Term 3 and aims to foster the skills of confidence, improvisation and collaboration. Students who would like to be involved in the Club need to come to the PAC at Lunchtime on Mondays throughout Term 3 and to bring their lunch with them. The activities will be led by the 2013 – 2014 Drama Captain, Nicholas Carr, and supervised by the Head of Drama, Mrs Natalie Parsons-Clair.

Students who show commitment and a positive attitude to the Drama Club in Term 3 will be invited to continue in Term 4 and to work on preparing a performance for the Semester 2 Elective Drama Entertainment Night (EDEN) on Tuesday 3rd December. Students will perform alongside the Year 9 and 10 Elective Drama students at EDEN.  There may be extra Lunchtime rehearsals, and possibly an after school rehearsal, required. A note will be sent home about the details for this closer to the date.

There is no cost involved with this program. We hope your child will benefit and enjoy being part of the Year 7 Drama Club.

Year 8 Market Stall

Year 8 Food Technology students will be hosting their Market Stall next Tuesday 20th August at lunch-time in the undercover area outside the canteen. Students have made a variety of snack foods including smoothies, Mexican cuisine, Indian Cuisine, muffins and burgers. Prices range from $1 to $5 with all proceeds going to charity. Please come along to support the Market Stall holders and their charities.

Exchange Student Farewells

Goodbye and good luck to Sammi, Emma and Anna from Episcopal Academy, USA and Keita and Chihiro from Kanto Daiichi, Tokyo. It's been wonderful getting to know you!

Open Morning

We will be holding our Term 3 Open Morning this Thursday, 15th August in the library from 9.15am to 10.30am, and would like to extend an open invitation for the whole community to come and see the school in action.

This is a great opportunity for prospective parents to speak directly with the Headmaster and our Heads of School and to take a guided tour with one of our students.

Please feel free to pass on to friends and family who may be interested in joining the school next year and beyond.

Enrolments 2014

We are now finalising 2014 enrolments.    If you anticipate a change in your circumstances and would like to discuss your enrolment please contact our Registrar, Mrs Sarah Barker on 4365 8404.

We have many Orientation Days planned in Term 4 to assist new students enrolling at CCGS.  It is of great benefit to the families on our waitlist if we can offer a place as early as possible so their child can participate in the orientation activities.

Under our enrolment conditions a full term’s notice is required to avoid incurring penalty fees. Friday 13 September 2013 is the last official day of notification if your child is leaving at the end of Term 4, 2013. Notice to withdraw can be emailed direct to:    sbarker@ccgs.nsw.edu.au
