The Fathering Project

I am excited to announce that the GSG Fathering Project Champion Dads Group is up and running and has planned its first event.

Sincere thanks to inaugural Champion Dads, Lee Sounness, Rhys Ravenhill, Clint Irvine, Richie Moir and Darryl Hancock, who came together and kickstarted this great initiative. They came up with the title of Dads in Great Southern (DIGS).

DIGS will hold a get-together for dads and father figures on 24 May at Six Degrees in the back room, at 7.30pm. This will be a social occasion with further information provided about the Fathering Project and the first DIGS Dad/kids event. All dads and father figures are invited to come along, enjoy a relaxed evening and learn more about the benefits that the Fathering Project has for our kids.

Please go to thefatheringproject.org for more information.

P&F Meeting

The first P&F Meeting for the term was held on Tuesday night, incorporating our AGM. Guest speaker, School Counsellor, Sheryl Moncur, started the evening off with a passionate and informative chat about her role at GSG, with student mental health at the forefront of her presentation. Those in attendance agreed that we are fortunate to have a Counsellor so dedicated to educating and guiding students and staff, in regard to overall wellbeing. Thank you, Sheryl, on behalf of all those who attended the meeting.

I am pleased to advise that Mandy Wignall was elected to the position of P&F Secretary. Welcome, Mandy!

Mr Sawle spoke in detail about several upcoming events at GSG, including the 20-Year Gala Cocktail on 16 June (have you bought your tickets yet?), including the concrete resurfacing around the Multi-Purpose Sport Complex, further enclosed shelter in the Middle undercover are and the installation of solar panels onto the Pratten Centre roof.

Mr Sawle also proposed a draft structure under consideration for the P&F which can viewed on MyGSG, in P&F section under General K-12. The P&F and Mr Sawle seek parent feedback on this proposed structure, and we welcome your comments and suggestions.

A copy of my President’s Report for the AGM can be found here.

Walkathon

Preparations are in full swing for the Walkathon on 21 May. There are great prizes to be won and earned, including Boost Juice Vouchers, caps, a bike from Impulse Cycles, class movie excursions to Orana Cinema, and Apple AirPods for the student with most funds raised. With less than two weeks to go, it’s time to get busy finding sponsors!

P&F Business Directory

The development of the P&F Business Directory (online and print edition) is underway, with all GSG families invited to register their interest in advertising. The directory provides the opportunity for families to promote their businesses and for the school community to support those businesses.

I urge you to take advantage of this terrific marketing opportunity before the deadline of 30 June 2018 in order to be eligible for an additional listing in the Print Directory at no extra cost. Both print and online directories will be made widely available, providing valuable exposure for your business to a responsive local community.

For more information, please contact Directory Coordinator, Mrs Carolyn Cunningham, on 0427 251 314 or email directory@gsg.wa.edu.au

A big thank you to Albany Printers for their support in providing the free printing service for this project.

Mr Dean Fasolo | P&F President
