Years 2-6 Orientation Program

We have had many new students for 2013 visiting our school this week and in the previous two weeks. I have been very impressed with our new students. They will be a real asset to our school. I have also been pleased with our current students for they have been very warm and welcoming to the new students. It has been very touching watching the buddies of the new students show them around the school with such pride. Well done!

Congratulations students – excellent feedback

I have received positive feedback throughout the year from the local community concerning the excellent behaviour of our Junior  School students. It is greatly appreciated because we teach our students the CCGS core values of:

  1. The care of others
  2. Generosity and selflessness
  3. Personal integrity
  4. Love and loyalty
  5. Respect and Forgiveness
  6. Responsibility and self-discipline
  7. Compassion and friendship
  8. Courage and perseverance
  9. Truthfulness and honesty

Last week, I received positive feedback about our Year 2 students. Whilst on their excursion to Vaucluse House, they showed beautiful manners and excellent behaviour. A group of elderly people asked the students what school they were from and complimented them on their outstanding behaviour. The tour guide thought their general knowledge was amazing and their manners impeccable. Well done Year 2 and staff! We are very proud of you!

House Celebration Day 2013

The winning House for 2013 was announced at last week's Service and cheers could be heard for miles from the noise the Nicholii students made when they heard they had won this year's House Competition.

The celebrations will take place next Friday 6th December. All students will come to school dressed in their full PE uniforms. Normal classes will be conducted for periods 1 and 2 and then students will assemble after recess in their House meeting areas.

CCGS Fathers' & Childrens' Camp- a great success!

The Point Wolstoncroft facility again played host to the 2013 CCGS F&C Camp from 22nd to 24th November. Mrs Webb and Mr Low both took time out of their busy schedules to visit the Camp and to talk with the students and their fathers. Although the weekend started off wet and wild with some storms, the scheduled activities went ahead. including the High Ropes, Giant Swing, kayaking, sailing, trail bike riding, canoeing, and rock climbing, along with the campfire, marshmallows and a visit from Santa in the Rural Fire Service Truck. This was followed up with a Talent Show and screening of movies. The weekend finished on Sunday with face painting, jumping castle, and the very competitive paper plane competition which saw some outstanding entries with very vocal support from onlookers.

From all accounts the kids had a great time. Thanks and appreciation go to the staff at Point Wolstoncroft for the great weekend keeping us occupied and well fed.

Special mention should also go to the Father's Group who have again stepped up to organise the weekend. The weekend serves several purposes. It allows kids to spend the weekend with their fathers which is especially important. It also helps the social fabric of the CCGS school community, allowing fathers to meet, talk and network. And the indirect benefit is that Mothers get Friday and Saturday nights to themselves to relax until the fathers and kids get home on Sunday afternoon.

For the first time this year, the kids were given an opportunity to design the winning "bag tag" which will be made and given to all participating students from the 2013 camp. The entry box for the Bag Tag Design Comp was extremely full,  and over the next week the Fathers’ Group will assemble the expert judging panel and share the results, but from what we have seen so far it is going to be a hard competition to judge.

Lost Property
There is a considerable amount of clothing and other items that were left behind after the camp. These items are currently being held in the Junior School Office. We will keep them here until the end of term and anything that is not claimed after this date will be donated St Vinnie's.

Portfolios – We hope you enjoy this wonderful keepsake of your child's year.

Portfolios will be sent home with reports on Monday, 9th December. The portfolio this year will be the same format as last year. It will be a snapshot or “journey” of your child’s experiences in their particular grade. It will have work samples, displays and photos of your child completing different activities throughout the year. It will be a “celebration of the school year”. We aim for it to be a treasure in the future and cherished for years to come.
The teachers have taken endless hours compiling all the fine work in your child’s portfolio. I have to say how impressed I am with the quality and content of these portfolios. The care and commitment of the staff is incredible and I congratulate all our teachers for their efforts.
